Subject
Introduction: Personalised medicine is a medical model that examines the phenotype and genotype of a patient and by using molecular profiling, imaging and additional information about the lifestyle and environmental factors, it allows specialists to prepare a precise therapeutic strategy. Aim: Visual presentation of the development of science towards the provision of individualized therapy and its application in the various branches of medicine. Method: Document analysis and content analysis are used. Results: Personalized medicine gives great hopes and opportunities for improvement, optimization and individualization of the therapeutic regimen. It allows improving the safety and effectiveness of the therapy. The basic concept of personalized medicine consists of treating the disease or determining the predisposition to the disease of the patient, with the application of molecular genetic analysis, in order to achieve an optimal therapeutic result. Each patient has a set of individual characteristics, on the basis of which the most effective therapy with minimal side effects can be prescribed. This approach aims to improve the quality of life and limit unnecessary healthcare costs. Conclusion: In many cases, the applied traditional treatment does not have the expected result, and at the same time there is an increasing pressure for efficient spending of health care funds. Personalized medicine can offer better outcomes and, at the same time, potentially save on unnecessary costs. The ultimate goals of personalized medicine are to improve the health care of each individual patient and to increase the overall efficiency of the health care system.
