Subject
Since ancient times, people have been taking care of their skin. One of the first documented endeavors of skin care is associated with the Roman physician Galen, who is also the author of the so-called Unguentum Refrigerans (from Latin - cooling ointment) or ceratum Galeni (form Latin - Galen's Wax). The main technological disadvantage of his cream composition has been its stability – easy oxidizing of the product, rancidification and layering. Scientist have assessed those issues and as a result – tried to improve the formulation and stability of the cream. Guided by the same incentive, and with respect to the original Galen’s composition, we developed three modern versions of the cold cream – each one dedicated to certain skin conditions and/or problems. The first composition contains walnut oil, as a carrier, and is very suitable for people with dry and sensitive skin as well as for eczema caused by pathogens. The advantages of the walnut oil cold cream are based on the higher content of vitamins, unsaturated fatty acids, and polyphenols. The cream gently hydrates the skin. For cleansing and refreshment of acneic skin, we offer a unique composition, containing raspberry seed oil. The cream was developed in a way to provide soothing, cleansing, fortifying of the irritated skin. The third composition contains grape seed oil and has a strong antioxidant effect. It protects the skin from oxidative stress and improves its elasticity. Compositions, technology, approbation and application details are discussed.
