Subject
Aim: To analyze and compare the content of the joint WHO/FIP guidelines on Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) and the Good Pharmaceutical Practice Rules of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union (BPhU). Methods and materials: For the purpose of the study, a content analysis of the joint WHO/FIP guidelines on GPP (2011) and the Good Pharmaceutical Practice Rules of BPhU (2020) was performed. Results: According to the joint WHO/FIP guidelines, GPP is defined as ‘the practice of pharmacy that responds to the needs of the people who use the pharmacists’ services to provide optimal, evidence-based care’. In 2009, BPhU developed the Good Pharmaceutical Practice Rules, which were updated and approved by the Minister of Health in 2020. The main principles of the GPP guarantee the participation of pharmacists in ensuring the safe use of medicines, creating a framework for the development of standards of pharmaceutical care in dispensing medicines, educating patients, etc. Standards in GPP are focused on ensuring the effectiveness of pharmaceutical care and expanding the range of services provided to patients. Discussion: The comparative analysis of the content of the joint FIP/WHO guidelines on GPP and the Good Pharmaceutical Practice Rules of BPhU shows that the international standards for the quality of pharmaceutical care are implemented in Bulgaria. The application of the standarts for GPP is in the interest of society and the pharmaceutical profession, as GPP ensures the measures for the rational and safe use of medicines.
