Hydrogels based on chitosan are diligently investigates in tissue engineering, due to their non-immunogenity, low toxicity and biocompatibility as well as they possess fungistatic and bacteriostatic qualities. Chitosan crosslinked with poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) is used for prolonged drug release, which is much slower compared to the system based on chitosan only. PEG also is biocompatible, non toxic and non-immunogenic.

In the current experiment,new viscose chitosan-alcoholic systems crosslinked with PEG are synthesized. In thus synthesized hydrogels salicylic acid is incorporated and the polymers are characterized in the terms of the viscosity, chemical structure (ATR-FTIR) and thermal properties (DSC).
