Subject
Flurbiprofen is a commercial non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug. As a result of a significant number of pharmacological studies, it has been proven that flurbiprofen can be a powerful and effective agent in the treatment of inflammatory conditions, including arthritic ones. Amides are an important class of organic compounds that are used in many areas, and their share in the pharmaceutical industry is significant. In this regard, the goal of obtaining new biofunctional hybrids containing both a 2-phenylethylamine fragment and a flurbiprofen residue in their molecular structure was successfully achieved. A convenient method for the preparation of the starting amides from amines and carboxylic acids is the method described in the literature using N,N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide. On the resulting flurbiprofen hybrids, we experimentally determined lipophilicity using reversed phase thin layer chromatography (RPTLC) method. The hybrid molecules were tested in vitro for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activity. Compounds 4b, 4c, 4d, and 4f showed significant anti-arthritic activity compared to the standards ibuprofen and flurbiprofen.
